What schedule statuses mean
Last reviewed
Sports listings use a handful of status labels that sound similar but mean different things for viewers. Here is what each one means and what you will see on SportSurge.
Common labels
- TBD / TBA: the date or time has not been confirmed yet. Common for playoff games and for flexible schedules.
- Upcoming (scheduled): the event has a confirmed start time and has not started.
- Delayed: the event will still happen today, but later than planned (weather, a previous game running long, technical issues).
- Postponed: the event will not happen at the listed time and will be rescheduled.
- Cancelled: the event will not take place.
- Live: the provider reports the broadcast as in progress.
- Ended: the broadcast is over.
Why SportSurge never guesses “Live”
Some schedule sites mark a game live as soon as its start time passes, and finished once a typical game length has elapsed. That is wrong whenever there is a delay, overtime or an early finish. SportSurge only shows Live when the streaming provider reports it.
What the watch page does in each state
- Upcoming or delayed: the page shows event details and checks for player sources every minute.
- Live: available sources load automatically; you can switch sources and go fullscreen.
- Postponed or cancelled: no player is loaded; related broadcasts are suggested instead.
- Ended: the page explains the broadcast has ended rather than showing a broken player.
